By utilizing our preparatory software system our shipping specialist can take all the details of the call ahead of time; allowing you to just notify us of the death when it occurs. This provides you as the funeral director piece of mind to know that no matter what day of the week or time, we have all the call details on hand.

 

What happens if a family contacts NMS directly?

From time-to-time family members do contact National Mortuary Shipping and Cremation. However, we work only with licensed funeral directors.

 

Can you ship un-embalmed remains?

Yes, National Mortuary Shipping and Cremation can ship un-embalmed remains. However, the preparation protocols for such service vary from location-to-location and may require additional shipping considerations, such as limited flight schedules and the use of a Ziegler case.

 

How long does it take to get certified copies?

The time to receive certified copies varies by place of death. Some states allow electronic filing that speeds up the acquisition of certified copies but some states still rely on standard mail. Delays caused by medical examiner/ coroner or doctors can significantly affect the time death certificates are filed. Some Health Departments also have varying hours of operations that limit the ability to file.

 

Do you file with social security administration?

No, NMS does not file with social security. However, some states have an electronic death registry system that will notify SSA the death has occurred.

 

Can you only do paperwork or flight booking?

Yes, National Mortuary Shipping and Cremation can assist with any portion of the shipping process you need.

 

Can we remove a deceased across state lines without a permit?

Some states allow the ground transportation of a deceased across state lines without a burial transit permit and some do not. However, all common air carriers require a burial transit permit for the shipping of human remains.
